Solution Overview
With Content Control from Blue Coat and the ProxySG appliance installed in an organizations network, every Web request is processed using the Blue Coat Content Control Database. Comprised of the most frequently accessed sites on the Web, the
database includes categorization of sites in 36 languages, containing more than six million URL Web sites and representing more than one billion Web pages. These sites are organized in 52 content categories allowing for greater customization of an organization’s Internet filtering policy. Additionally, custom categories can be defined on the ProxySG to allow unique access lists and URL overrides for individual departments.
Unlike other basic URL filtering lists that primarily address adult site blocking, the Content Control from Blue Coat solution goes a step further to enable controls over Web applications such as, Adware, Spyware, P2P, and IM. The foundation of the ProxySG plus the Blue Coat Content Control Database provides the features needed to address emerging Web content threats. Unique to the ProxySG is its patented proxy caching technology and
the Policy Processing Engine – a powerful combination for achieving performance and enforcing granular Web access policies in any enterprise environment.
The Content Control from Blue Coat solution allows comprehensive control and enforcement of Web
access policies. For example, an organization can decide to block all Web sites in the category “gambling”, while allowing access only to job posting sites by the human resources department. Additionally, users can be prompted with the corporate Internet use policy each day when they access the network. An Internet use policy can “coach” a user on URL access and inform them that Web access is being logged.
The combined solution allows organizations to effectively manage Internet access, reduce costs and extend URL filtering beyond traditional adult site blocking.
