Check Point
Content Control from Blue Coat combined with Check Point provides protection and Internet policy enforcement for businesses, homes, schools, libraries and government agencies. Content Control from Blue Coat delivers a next generation content filtering architecture, utilizing a scalable, dynamic database combined with real-time site rating technology to block objectionable and unproductive Web content. Content Control from Blue Coat is implemented as a URL Filtering Protocol (UFP) Server that is OPSEC certified.

The Content Control from Blue Coat solution is built on the managed service business model. This minimizes the organization's need for expensive IT hardware and ongoing maintenance by putting the technology and file management burden at Blue Coat's data centers. The unique architecture features one of the industries largest databases of categorized Web sites and provides real-time ratings on any dynamically generated Web site resulting in an extremely accurate, cost-effective solution.

Content Control from Blue Coat can be deployed in three Check Point UFP Server models: Integrated, Dedicated and Hosted.

  • Integrated UFP Server places the UFP server function on the same unit as the Check Point VPN-1.
  • Dedicated UFP Server off-loads the UFP Server to a local device. This UFP Server consists of Blue Coat software installed on customer-supplied equipment, managed by the organization’s IT administrator.
  • Hosted UFP Server consists of a customer-managed, local VPN-1 implementation coupled with an outsourced and managed UFP Server hosted by Blue Coat or one of Blue Coat’s managed service provider partners.

Many content filtering vendors support the Integrated and Dedicated UFP Server models. Only Blue Coat offers the hosted UFP Service for Check Point model. Outsourcing the UFP Server off-loads the cost and management burden associated with local UFP Server deployments.

The hosted UFP Service model is the first deployment of its kind. The UFP Server is hosted by Blue Coat or one of Blue Coat’s managed service provider partners. The outsourced model allows one UFP Server to host multiple UFP Server instances. The virtual UFP Server instance can be from a single customer with multiple Check Point firewall deployments or different customers sharing a UFP server, each with its own instance (including logging and reporting). Each customer-owned Check Point firewall is associated with a single, hosted UFP Server instance. Each licensed instance is identified by a unique IP address and port number. A hosted model provides a redundant facility and load balanced configuration to ensure high availability. The hosted model shares the UFP Server costs between multiple organizations and locations, creating a more cost-effective model for large-scale deployments.

The UFP Service for Check Point operates with all Check Point VPN-1 products that “speak” UFP. There is no third-party software that is required to be installed on the actual platform running the Check Point software. Content Control from Blue Coat for Check Point UFP runs with any Check Point VPN-1 platform that supports UFP including:

  • Software-based installations (Secure Platform, Linux, Solaris, Windows, etc.)
  • Secured By Check Point appliances and server platform partners (implementations that support UFP)
  • VPN-1 Pro
  • Express Gateway
  • Nokia IP Security Platforms
